The Catholic Way of Life

The Catholic way of life is daily commitment to live the vows of Baptism and to be faithful to the Lord's commandment of love embodied in the Eucharist.

Baptism incorporates us into the Body of Christ. The waters of Baptism both wash away our sins and make us members of the Church. The two sacramental signs of Baptism, namely water and Chrism oil, represent and cause this double transformation: forgiveness and membership.

The Sacrament of Confirmation derives its name from the fact that it is the Church's 'confirming' a person's Baptism. In the name of the whole the Church, the Bishop confirms the individual confirmand's membership in the Church and strengthens the individual to be a faithful disciple of Christ.

The weekly celebration of Eucharist is our communal meal, the renewal of our covenant with Christ, the memorial of the sacrifice which reconciles us with God, and the appropriate praise and worship which is due to God. For these reasons, the weekly celebration of the Eucharist is the center of the Catholic way of life.

Eucharist feeds us spiritually and strengthens us to continue Christ's work on earth. As faithful disciples, we must always be engaged in the work of spreading the Gospel and building up the kingdom of God on earth. We preach the Gospel by our words and actions, and we lead lives marked by a commitment to peace and justice.
